TEMPO.CO, Kerala - A pastor has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after being convicted of repeatedly raping 12-year-old girl at his church. Reverend James K. Sanil immoral deed was in the Salvation Army Church in Kerala state, southern India, in 2014.
During the trial, as reported by Lbc.co.uk page, Wednesday, March 2, 2016, the judge listened to the confession that the priest raped the girl-now 13-year-old several times over two months. 37-year-old pastor was even being investigated over the alleged rape of another girl during the same period.
The judge sentenced 20 years in a row to James without parole and a fine of 20 thousand rupees, or about USD 3.9 million. "The court said the priest deserved the maximum sentence for this cruel act," said prosecutor Mathew Pious.
Smriti Minocha activists welcomed the decision, reportedly, an unusual force in the country, where they were sentenced to life imprisonment will run only 14-year sentence.
